〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Andrew Pulaski, Apollo is his super alias.
CHARACTER AGE: Roughly late 20s/early 30s.
SERIES: DC Comics
CHRONOLOGY: Midnighter #7 (after he finds the picture M left for him)
CLASS: Anti-hero
HOUSING: Randomize me! I’m open to housing in any city.

BACKGROUND: Andrew’s world is just like ours, except his has the addition of super powered people, aliens, and several cities not existing in our world. The joining together of several super powered individuals known as the Justice League (which happens several years prior to Andrew’s canon point) is the first major reveal to his world as a whole that super beings, alien and meta-human, do exist and live among humanity. This reveal encourages others, hero and villain alike, to come into the light and make names for themselves.

One member of the Justice League in particular would unknowingly become the reason for tragedy in Andrew’s life; Superman. Despite all of the crazy things happening in his world, Andrew grew up as a regular child in Wilkes-Barre in a deeply religious household. Soon after turning twelve he decided to come out as gay to his family. In turn, they kicked him out and sent him to live with his aunt. He stays with her for about a year until, one day, at the age of thirteen; he’s abducted by an unnamed alien group who experiment on him for years, hoping to create their own Superman. They succeed. It’s unknown how many years he spent as their experiment, but eventually he’s able to escape from them and make it back to Earth.

Upon returning, Andrew decides to use his new abilities to go after petty crooks and a child porn ring. But he isn’t particularly subtle about his actions, so pictures and videos of him get put up on the Internet, which is how the covert team of super beings named Stormwatch find out about him and decide to recruit him. Andrew makes it clear he’s not interested in joining a team or being considered a superhero, at first. But through a series of incidents he and Midnighter (who had been following him also looking for a team-up) end up fighting alongside the team anyways, and eventually joining.

But a lot of friction grows between Andrew and the way in which Stormwatch operates. Stormwatch, originally known as the Demon Knights, was founded in the Middle Ages and has been working in secret to defend Earth from otherworldly and super powered foes ever since. The one time the team tried to come out into the open and reveal themselves to human, lots of bad things happened. However, Andrew has issues with secrets and secret keeping, and his discontent with working for Stormwatch only grows. But he sticks around for longer than he probably would have liked because of Midnighter and his growing feelings for the man. Midnighter, unlike him, seems to enjoy the work and having a purpose.

Then a former Stormwatch member and traitor returns disguised as one of the Shadow Cabinet (the cosmic beings who run Stormwatch) and fabricates lies about the Midnighter secretly working with him behind their backs. This sends the entire team after Midnighter, but no one is as angry or heartbroken over the alleged news than Andrew. He flies into a rage, vowing to kill Midnighter himself. But when the moment comes for Midnighter’s execution he prevents it. Then the team finds out the truth about the traitor, and that their leader has been possessed by some alien entity, and they go on the run.

After dealing with that the Shadow Cabinet decide to erase the current reality and replace it with a new one, along with a new team of Stormwatch, which includes an alternate version of Andrew. It’s never explained what happens after but the original team somehow un-do everything, fight the Shadow Cabinet and then go on the run from them.

Fast-forward an unknown amount of time and Andrew and Midnighter have left Stormwatch and moved into an apartment in Opal City. However, their happiness doesn’t last long when Midnighter finally comes clean about not having any of his past memories, not even a real name, and then decides to walk out on their relationship because his computer brain tells him to. A year later, Andrew has made attempts to talk to M about their relationship, but they’ve ended in failure. He’s gotten to the point of trying to move on with his life. And then he comes home and finds the picture of a teenage boy resembling Midnighter. His one memento of a past he doesn’t remember.

PERSONALITY: Andrew is a man who has been beaten down in his life on multiple occasions, but has always found the strength to get back up again. Being cast off by his family, abducted and experimented upon by aliens, having to cope with having new abilities in a world where people were just as likely to see him as something inhuman as they were to see him as a hero. These are only the major sufferance’s he’s had to endure up until his canon point, and he has never once let any of them stop him from living for himself. As he tells Neron, one of many rulers in Hell, later on in canon, “People have been trying to break me my entire life”. His strength doesn’t just lay in his physical prowess; he has an impeccable strength of spirit as well that urges him forward no matter what.

At a glance, Andrew is typically calm and level-headed. He’s not easy to shock or intimidate and has an easy-going manner that takes things in stride. Ripping an alien’s arm off? Piece of cake, let’s mount it above the bed. Having date night ruined because the boyfriend would rather fight thugs? Sure, why not. But Andrew is also a deeply emotional man, and when he’s made to feel angry, hurt, or threatened, he feels it at a maximum level. His anger towards Midnighter during the time he had thought he was a traitor was all consuming, making him withdrawn and focused solely on his target. Hurting him by targeting the ones he loves is another sure way to both get his attention and draw his complete ire.

Another important aspect about Andrew is how he feels about secrets. He doesn’t like them, but it goes deeper than that. His choosing to come out to his family was his first refusal to live a lie and it’s a decision he’s stood by for the rest of his life following. He refuses to be closeted in any way, whether it is relationship based or worked related. His issues with Stormwatch lie in the way it runs completely under the radar and in secret. And at one point during the beginning of their relationship, Midnighter suggests that they keep a low profile about their feelings for each other, specifically not touching each other while their teammates are around, and Andrew responds negatively.

While not considering himself a ‘hero’ as the likes of the Justice League and others, even stating early on to Stormwatch that he had no intention of being so, Andrew cares deeply about protecting people , especially when it comes to ensuring that no other child has to go through the things he and Midnighter did. He wants to inspire hope in people, that there’s someone looking out for them. But he’s as vicious and dangerous to his foes as he is gentle and caring to the people he saves. He has no qualms about killing if necessary, and it tends to be necessary more times than not.

POWER:
Enhanced Physiology: Due to the experiments done on him, Andrew has a number of physiological differences setting him apart from a regular human. He has super strength, and is able to lift objects the size and weight of buildings up with ease. He has the ability to fly at great speeds. His canon never specifies how fast, however if we use The Authority version of Apollo as reference, he would be able to fly around the world in a number of minutes. His invulnerability keeps him unharmed against physical attacks. He can be hit with bullets, weapons, physical attacks, and other power based attacks without being injured. His body lives off of solar energy rather than oxygen, making him able to survive atmospheres other humans wouldn't be able to, like space, without the need to breathe. The longer he goes without steady contact to some type of solar energy, like the sun, the weaker he will become. As he weakens, so do all of his abilities, making him unable to fly, use his strength, or withstand attacks without getting hurt.

Solar Energy: As mentioned above, it's his life source as much as it is his ability. Andrew has to keep in steady contact with a source of solar energy in order to remain healthy and to have use of his abilities. Aside from the abilities already mentioned, he can absorb and project solar energy into and out of his body. By absorbing it, he takes in the life force he needs. However, when he projects it out, either through his eyes or hands, it does steadily weaken him. If he keeps projecting the energy out without replenishing his energy reserves, then he will run out and weaken completely, even to the point of death. He will die if he goes a long enough time without contact to solar energy. The solar energy also works as part of his invulnerability, in that when he's fully charged, no attacks can hurt him, and those that can will heal quickly. But when he's low on energy, his invulnerability diminishes. On a cosmetic standpoint, the solar energy, when he's charged up, gives him a glow and a halo of light that surrounds his head. It doesn't do anything exactly, but give an idea where he's at in terms of charge. When he's charged and healthy, there's a glow and halo. When he's getting low in charge, the glow and halo will begin to fade. When they've completely disappeared he's either dead or close to it.

Back in my world I've been known to have a fan or two, but they usually drew the line at taking photos and video of me from a far. The locals here are a little more intense. And some of their questions...[He shakes his head. Some of the questions are just too personal and embarrassing to bear repeating.]

I came up here to get a bit of a breather. But it's not like I can just stay up here forever. Well...I could, but that seems like overkill. Mainly I'm just wondering how the rest of you deal with the spotlight? Do you can any tips or tricks you're willing to share on how to keep local fan base off my back?

Oh, and I'm Apollo. For anyone watching who may be thinking of causing some trouble around here, you should remember it. Because we'll be meeting real soon.
